BLOG POST #3 ICE BAR

Imagine a bar, the walls, tables and even your own glass made completely from ice!

Thats right we didn’t believe it ourselves, so we had to check it out. We won’t include all the details of getting to the Ice Bar, because if you have read our last post we explained how we make our journey to London, and this is where the bar is located.

We arrived at the Ice Bar, but if you haven’t been before, it can be a struggle to find. The destination given on google maps sent us to the road behind causing us to be a smidge late for our slot time of 2:40pm for our 40 minute experience. We had decided to pre-book our tickets in advance through the Ice Bar Website, saving us any hassle on arrival.

Ice Bar London is the UK’s only permanent bar made of ice and is kept at -5°C all year round. It’s a very cold experience where everything is made from crystal clear Torne River ice from the winter wonderland of Jukkasjärvi in Northern Sweden.

On preparing to enter, staff helped us into our thermal capes, with warm fluffy hoods and gloves to ‘attempt’ to keep us warm during our visit, which it did to a certain extent, until the timer had decreased by roughly 20 minutes. From then onwards you can REALLY feel the below freezing temperature.

Entrance includes the first drink free, after this they do get a little pricey (£6.80 for a refill) but we didn’t have to worry about drinks, as we weren’t going for a big night out, hence going at the time we did, we purely went for the experience. From the large menu of cocktails and drinks, we were both spoilt for choice. As always ladies first, Hollie went for a vodka Monkey Wrench, which consists of Absolut Vodka, Blueberry Liqueur, Tropical Fruit Juice, Lemon Juice and Strawberry Syrup. We would recommend to anyone who’s a vodka fan. Sam chose to go for a Tequila Bad To The Bone (because he thinks he is), made up of Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila, Elderflower Cordial, Pineapple Juice, Strawberry Syrup and Lemon Juice (as seen in the photos below). He didn’t have to comment on this, his facial expression said it all, but having tried it, he would be having something different next time.

The timer was now coming close to 10 minutes remaining, and someone (SAM) just couldn’t take the temperature anymore, as the silly boy decided to wear a t-shirt. So we took our last photos and headed for the exit, on leaving the bar, the temperature change brings a sigh of relief. Knowing your fingers and toes are still there is a good feeling!

We both loved this experience, it’s not something you get to do or see everyday. One thing to remember if you do decide to go here, is to wear more than a t-shirt!

P.S. We hope you enjoy reading this post, as we’ve enjoyed writing it! Speak soon.
